What we do.

Coat Exchange

For many, the day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday. For us, it’s Buy Nothing Day. Each year, we set up on the lawn of the State House and, with the help of donors and volunteers, we provide coats and warm winter gear to thousands of Rhode Islanders.

We collect clean, gently-used or new:

  • Winter coats

  • Scarves

  • Gloves/mittens

  • Winter hats

  • Sweatshirts/sweaters

We serve adults and children of all ages, sizes, and genders, so we welcome donations for ages 0–100!

Collections begin annually in September and end the week before Thanksgiving. Distribution is on the day after Thanksgiving.

Spare a Pair

Our annual sock and underwear drive benefits people who are experiencing homelessness or living in shelters, as well as our trusted partner organizations with direct ties to the community.

We collect new, unopened:

  • Socks (for both adults and kids)

  • Underwear (for adults of all genders and sizes)

When it comes to the socks we collect, the taller and thicker, the better!

Collections begin annually in January and end in April. Distribution happens on a rolling basis during collection.
